“Occidental College officials are
defending their decision not to issue a campus alert after a student reported
that she was sexually assaulted at a party near the campus last weekend. In an
e-mail to the campus, Barbara J. Avery, the college’s dean of students, wrote
that officials determined there was no “continuing threat” following the
reported assault, which involved two students. A campus group that seeks to
raise awareness of sexual assault condemned
the college’s handling of the incident” (http://chronicle.com/blogs/ticker/jp/occidental-college-defends-response-to-reported-sexual-assault?cid=at&utm_source=at&utm_medium=en).
