For those who asked for data and statistics…

A little while back, I posted an article urging us all to keep an eye on the issue about rape on college campuses. A couple of very obnoxious folks decided to try and minimize the issue and (for whatever their own reasons) focus on silly things like “they did not like the terminology I used” or “did I have any data to back up my article”. I had to remind them that this issue was too big for pettiness. I also reminded folks that this is rape issue is also prevalent amongst our armed forces.

“Military Sex Assault Claims Rise After Pentagon Launches Campaign Urging Victims To Report”

“WASHINGTON (AP) — Reports by members of the military of sexual assaults jumped by an unprecedented 50 percent last year, in what Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel declared a "clear threat" to both male and female service members' lives and well-being.”

“The latest numbers reflected an aggressive campaign by the Pentagon to persuade victims to come forward, but Hagel and others said Thursday they need to do more to get men to report assaults — a challenge in a military culture that values strength. Hagel said an estimated half of sexual-assault victims in the military are men, yet only 14 percent of reported assaults involve male victims.”

Here is your data! Please let us all take this seriously because it does not have to be this way. Let us end this!
